4 teens dead following chase, trooper slams into SUV at high-rate of speed

Florida  – Four teens  — ages 14 to 16 — are dead following a high-speed chase in Waldo.

The incident started when an SUV was stolen in Gainesville and later seen after a license plate scanner detected the stolen vehicle.

When an Alachua County sheriff’s deputy confirmed the vehicle was stolen he attempted to make a traffic stop. The teen driving the SUV slowed down but then fled the scene.

According to reports, the deputy said he could tell that there were multiple occupants in the stolen vehicle.

The chase reached speeds of 111 miles per hour, however, deputies had to back off due to department vehicle limitations.

The Florida Highway Patrol then jumped in and resumed the chase through Waldo.

At a high rate of speed, the trooper intentionally slammed into the SUV during a PIT maneuver which caused the SUV to flip numerous times and then slam into a concrete utility pole.

Two of the teens died at the scene, Two others died at the hospital.

The parents of all four teens are now demanding high-speed chases to be banned in Florida.

The families have also sought legal representation.

FHP refused to release the name of the trooper who performed the pit maneuver.

Alachua County Fire Rescue responded and described the vehicle as “wrapped around a concrete utility pole.”
