Two Citrus County corrections officers arrested

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office announced that two Citrus County corrections officers have been arrested.

The arrests follow an investigation into the two corrections officers who had been suspected of selling narcotics.

The corrections officers had also sold fentanyl to undercover detectives.

According to reports, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Vice and Narcotics unit served a search warrant at a Royal Highlands residence located in Brooksville.

The two corrections officers, Matthew Devorak and Michael Smith were both present during the execution of the search warrant.

Smith was found to be in possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.

Devorak was in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine, alprazolam, lorazepam, fentanyl, and bupropion hydrochloride.

According to reports, both of them placed on suspension and have since bonded out of jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
